Martha’s Apprenticeship Journey
My name is Martha and I currently work for Norfolk County Council in Adult Social Services as a Business Support Officer. I recently completed my Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship with Blue Sky.
What does your role involve?
The team is made up of health and social care colleagues who specifically work with adults with learning disabilities. My role is to provide an efficient administration service to our clients, over the phone and face to face, whilst assisting the health and social care sides of the team with booking appointments, sending letters, minuting meetings etc.
What was the apprenticeship process like?
Before starting the apprenticeship, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The course was split into assignments, with each assignment focusing on a specific topic. Each topic was looked at in relation to my role so I could put the theory into practice. Throughout the course of my apprenticeship, targets were set and progress reviews were held with myself, Blue Sky and my employer to discuss where I had got to and the next steps.
What are you most proud about?
I am proud of how I juggled my work and study commitments. Before I started my role with the Council, I was studying at college so I hadn’t worked full time before. To begin with, I found working full time and studying at the same time a struggle, but I had a great support network, from both Blue Sky and my employer. Once I found a good routine, I was able to settle into my role and complete my studying alongside.
What would your advice be for those considering an apprenticeship?
Go for it! I have loved being able to work and learn at the same time – I now have the skills that I need for my role and have a qualification too!
What are your next learning steps?
On completion of my apprenticeship, my job responsibilities increased, therefore, I will be taking some time to get to grips with the new tasks. But I would definitely like to do some more learning in the future!
Thank you to everyone at Blue Sky who have supported me throughout my apprenticeship!
